Corinth Canal   Corinth Canal

This narrow canal separates the Peloponnese from mainland Greece. Canal construction was started by the Roman Emperor Nero in 62 A.D. and was completed in the 1890s. Now that's a long-term project!

xxx   The Ruins of Corinth

Most of the ancient Greek city of Corinth was destroyed by the Romans in the 2nd Century B.C. The ruins remaining today are primarily of Roman rather than Greek origin. Most date from about 44 B.C., when Caesar established a Roman colony here.
